Holidaying on a budget.

Need to refresh and take a well deserved break? Imagine yourself lying on beautiful white beach drinking an exotic cocktail? Worry that your purse strings are just too tight to fund a Holiday?

Well…Holidays don’t have to cost an arm and a leg. With a little work and shopping around you can enjoy a perfect break on a budget.

  1. Book online and book early. – Without the cost of overheads, booking Holidays on-line is cheaper than booking at your local travel agent.

  1. Be flexible – Holidays out of season are cheaper. Flights mid-week are cheaper. If you’re flexible with your Holiday destination you can expand your search and find the cheapest deal.

  1. Be open to new Holiday experiences – Camping holidays have gone beyond pitching up a tent in the rain. Campsites in the UK and abroad cater for the more modern campers. Switch your 3 bedroom chalet for a 3 bedroom mobile home and save a fortune.

  1. Book with low cost airlines – Decided on a self build holiday? Arrange your flights for as little as £10 one-way with no frills airlines such as Easyjet, Ryanair and BMI baby.

  1. Best exchange rate – Avoid poor value currency exchange rates. Shop around for the best deal. Changing your currency at the airport last minute will cause bankruptcy.

  1. Buy travel insurance – You’ll defiantly feel the pinch if something terrible occurs on Holiday and you’re not insured. However shop around for the best deal. Tread carefully if the travel agent offers free travel insurance, you’re probably paying for it within the package and at a hefty price.

  1. Be prepared early – Write a list of the things you need for your holiday, i.e. sun lotion, new swimming shorts, new bikini’s etc and then shop around for the cheapest. If you leave it to the last minute, panic will set in, you’ll impulse buy and over spend.

  1. Budget at Resort – Of course treat yourself, but don’t over indulge. Give yourself a budget and keep to it. Try to keep a reality check on what you’re spending. Having fun in the sun doesn’t need to cost the earth.

Hayley's Money Saving Tip

Travel by Train

“Train companies are scrapping dozens of their cheap fares. Some travellers will see the cost of a return journey triple.” Telegraph 18/05/2008

A simplified train fare system has been developed using 3 tickets types; advanced, anytime and off-peak, therefore people MUST book in advance before traveling to avoid the penny pinch.

Planning on a long weekend break this summer? Just booked your tickets for a summer festival? Though about travelling by train but was scared off by national news that a simplified train ticket system meant ticket price rises? Well fear not, if you book your train tickets 12 weeks in advance and avoid travelling at peak times then you still can bag a bargain. So why not scarp the car, and travel by train. It’s relaxing, eco-friendly and if planned ahead is cheaper than filling up the tank. .

Tip

  1. Just about to book a train journey! Register with Internet Cashback to earn cashback on your tickets.
  2. Do a price comparison and find the cheapest ticket.
  3. Don’t forget to make yourself a packed lunch and hot flask. Food and drink prices on trains are a complete rip-off and will do your purse some serious damage.
